Baljot Rai, JD

Articling Student

Baljot is an articling student drawn to family law because of its human impact—supporting people through some of the most challenging and emotionally complex moments of their lives. Her approach to legal practice is grounded in empathy, clarity, and a commitment to making the law accessible for every client.

Born and raised in Abbotsford, BC, Baljot completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia before earning a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University. She later pursued her JD at the University of Windsor, where she explored how legal systems shape everyday life and how lawyers can meaningfully support individuals navigating them.

During law school, Baljot gained hands‑on experience through the Externship Program, competed in moots, and served on the Admissions Committee Board. She also worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant for the Legal Research & Writing course, helping integrate artificial intelligence into legal education and supporting students in developing strong research and writing skills. As President of the Windsor Law Punjabi Association, she played a key role in fostering mentorship, cultural connection, and community within the law school for first-generation lawyers.

Baljot further developed her legal and policy skills at the British Columbia Financial Services Authority and Crown‑Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, where she contributed to research, hearings, policy development, and reconciliation‑focused initiatives.

She has volunteered with women experiencing domestic violence, helping support their legal needs with compassion, discretion, and trauma-informed care. This experience strengthened her commitment to client-centered advocacy and deepened her understanding of the barriers many women face when seeking safety and stability.
