Amanda Johl, JD

Associate Lawyer

Amanda is a family lawyer who was called to the Ontario Bar in October 2023 and to the British Columbia Bar in November 2023. She practices exclusively in the area of family law and is committed to providing clients with thoughtful, practical, and compassionate legal support during some of life’s most difficult transitions.

Over the past two years at Illuma, Amanda has supported clients through a wide range of family law issues, including separation, parenting, child and spousal support, and property division. She also drafts domestic contracts, such as cohabitation agreements, marriage agreements, and separation agreements. Known for her compassionate, settlement-focused approach, Amanda regularly assists clients in negotiating and mediating fair, efficient resolutions outside of court.

Amanda has represented clients in both Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia.

She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and Sociology from Simon Fraser University.

Amanda’s desire to help others, shaped by her own life experiences and family circumstances, led her to pursue a career in family law. Having experienced her parents’ divorce at a young age, she understands firsthand the emotional, psychological, and social impact of family breakdown. This personal insight allows Amanda to genuinely empathize with her clients while remaining calm and rational during emotionally charged situations. She leverages both her lived experience and legal knowledge to guide and empower clients through the often overwhelming and complex process of separation and divorce.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys travelling, exploring new restaurants in the city, and finding joy in the simple moments of life.
